The trailer shows a team of explorers who are sent to a distant planet to change its atmosphere so humans can colonise it. While exploring, they discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, but also discover the indigenous race of bio-mechanoid killers inhabiting the planet that begins the explorers’ fight to save the future of the human race.
Though not actually part of the Alien franchise, you can certainly see that series’ influence on the look of Prometheus. The actors wear the same spacesuits as the actors in Alien, the icky corridors and creepy nest-like area are the same (except for the inclusion of the giant stone head that looks like aliens stole it from Easter Island), and even Noomi Rapace running around scared shitless in undies similar to Sigourney Weaver’s at the end of Alien. Though you could say Ridley Scott pretty much just copied the look of a film he made 33 years ago, it looks like he threw in a bit of a dark version of the jungle and landscape in Avatar for the outdoor scenes.
Promethus also has a pretty good cast, with Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, and Noomi Rapace as the leads, with Guy Pearce and Patrick Wilson tagging along for the ride.
Released in Australia on June 7, both Alien and Ridley Scott fans will surely be flocking to see Prometheus to see Scott’s long awaited return to sci-fi, as well as getting to see the closest thing to a new Alien film that doesn’t have a Predator in it as well.
