Ah, your 30s. Where your get more concerned about your body as your metabolism slows down and your sex life starts to die thanks to the pressures of work and raising kids. Life is a juggling act and at the end of the day, there’s no time for a bit of good old fashioned hanky panky with your loved one. So despite sharing a bed with them, you two couldn’t be further apart emotionally.
The folks from the new Alex Theatre, one of the three theatres situated where the George Cinema in Fitzroy Street in St Kilda used to be, have launched their first play that provides a solution to this very problem: Sexercise The Musical. Fortunately having nothing to do with that awful Kylie Minogue song of the same name that went nowhere, Sexercise tells the tale of a married Melbourne couple in their 30s struggling to keep the spice going in their marriage while dealing with their day to day lives. Their mates try to help them out, but its at couples therapy where their counsellor who provides them with a book about sexercise, exercise through sex.
As the title suggests, this is indeed a musical. So expect big, belted tunes from the cast about failing relationships, both good and bad sex and sticking by your mates through thick and thin. So if you enjoy a bit of risque humour and a bit of a singalong, Sexercise will hit the (G) spot.
